DataStore to the rescue
The post-doc can't find the flow cytometry files that have the data the PI needs for the grant application. The CD went AWOL. The server's hard drive died. Someone reused the backup tape. The notes telling where the data is stored got wet, or lost, or burnt. The dog ate the memory stick. And, in time, the post-doc moved on, leaving no one with any idea of what happened to the data or the protocol information needed to interpret them.
Sound familiar?
It won't for those who install ScienceDataStore. With one click, this newly-released archiving solution from ScienceXperts catalogues all files from an experiment and stores them together on your institution’s own highly secure server. No one can rewrite anything without being detected, and no individual files can get lost.
This is truly longterm, tamper-proof security. Yet researchers immediately receive email AND Internet access to their data, which they can easily search with either Google or their email program. They can also safely share files over the Internet with colleagues in their lab or across the globe.
Besides maintaining results online for however long users require, ScienceDataStore automatically creates, indexes, and labels three sets of CDs/DVDs, giving each user a personal copy of his or her own data while putting the others into onsite and secure offsite storage. ScienceDataStore works seamlessly with CytoGenie Pro, which allows researchers to tie their protocols and customized labels to their datasets and easily send the whole package to FlowJo, JMP and other analysis software.
To make core facility managers happy, ScienceDataStore uploads in the background, retains at least two copies of the data at all times, and frees costly instruments for others to use. Information Technology professionals and administrators will appreciate how easily it fits into the infrastructure they already have in place and how it cuts down operating costs, while researchers will find access to their work whenever they want and wherever they happen to be. And everyone will benefit from the greatest possible security and trouble-free back-up and recovery, all in strict compliance with strict new regulatory and peer review requirements.
Running for over two years at Stanford’s Shared FACS Facility, ScienceDataStore has proved itself in the daily grind of one of the world’s busiest flow cytometry centers. It worked brilliantly, with a simple elegance that makes life easy for everyone.
Now available for flow cytometry (FCS) files, ScienceDataStore will soon accomodate TIFF and other popular formats from confocal microscopy and microarrays. Please click here for prices.
