Add subject descriptors

CytoGenie allows you to add keywords, or descriptors, to each of your Subjects.  To do this, go to the Subject descriptor(s) grid and click New.

If a red border appears in a cell under Column value, click and type your first Column name.  If you see no red border, click here.

Then click and type your first Column value.

To use the same Column name again, double-click the next row.  A drop-down arrow will appear.  Click it.  A drop-down menu will display your previous entry.  Click the entry rather than retyping it.  This prevents you from writing a Column name in more than one way and confusing your tables.

Click and type your next Column value.  A Column name may have multiple values.

To add a second Column name, click New.

The grid will reappear with a red-bordered cell under Column value.  Click and type your next Column name.

To use the second Column name again, double-click the next row.  A drop-down arrow will appear.  Click it.  A drop-down menu will display your previous entries.  Click the entry you want rather than retyping it.

Click and type your next Column value.  Repeat the process until you have entered all your descriptors.

Try an alternative way to enter your Column names and values.  Click the Downward options arrow.

An Options menu will pop up.  If Edit in place has a checkmark, click to remove it.

Click New.

An input window will appear.  Click and type your entries.  Then click Done.  Repeat until you have entered all your descriptors.

At any point in entering your keywords, you may apply them to any of your subjects.  Click the descriptor(s) you wish to apply.  Then drag them to the relevant subject.

CytoGenie will display your new columns on the Subject(s) grid.

If you would like to change the column order, click to select the column you want to move and drag it to its new position.  In the graphic below, the Donor column will snap into place.

You can also apply descriptors to subjects another way. Click a Subject.  Click one or more Subject descriptor(s).  Then click the Downward options arrow (or right-click anywhere on the grid).

The options menu will pop up.  Click Add 2 descriptor(s) to 1 subject selection(s).

You can also apply descriptors to multiple subjects.  Holding down the CTRL key, click the Subject(s) and Subject descriptor(s) you want to attach.  Then click the Downward options arrow.  (With contiguous rows, you may alternatively hold down the SHIFT key or simply hold down the mouse button as you roll over the rows you wish to select.)

An Options menu will pop up.  Click Add 2 descriptor(s) to 2 subject selection(s).

Repeat the above steps until you’ve applied all your key words in the way you want.  To erase or replace any entry, double-click on the cell.  A drop-down arrow will appear.  Click to see the list of options.  Click the one you want.  Alternatively, you can use the Options menu to delete selected cell(s) or row(s).

As you apply your Subject descriptor(s) to your Subject(s), CytoGenie will transfer them to the Sample(s) grid below.  You may rearrange your columns and sort order as you wish.

When you have finished entering your Subject(s) and Subject descriptors(s), you may move on to enter Sample descriptor(s).
