Subjects, samples & keywords

If you have not begun a protocol, the combined Subjects and Samples page will display settings you may wish to change.

Under Target species, click the drop-down arrow.  Click the Strain you want to use.

To enter, remove or replace Tissue(s), click to select any current entry.  Then click the Downward options arrow.

The menu will display several options.  Click Choose Tissues from list.

A list of available choices will appear.  Click the tissue(s) you want to add.  Then click Pick.

If you do not see the tissue you need, you can add it to the list.  Click either Tissue or one of the specific tissues.  Then click New.

Return to your Tissue(s) grid.  To remove an entry, click it.  Then click the Downward options arrow.

When an Options pop-up menu appears, click Remove ….

Alternatively, you can add a tissue by clicking the drop-down arrow.  Click and drag to scroll.  Click the tissue you want to include.

If you want to add another tissue and no blank is showing, click the + sign.

When you’ve finished with Tissue(s), go to Subject(s).  Click to select any pre-existing entries you wish to remove.  Then click the Downward options arrow.

The Options menu will pop up.  Click Remove selected Subject(s).  Note that Edit in place has a check mark.

A small confirmation window will appear.  Click Yes.

The red border around the Subject grid signals that CytoGenie needs information.

Since Edit in place is checked, you can enter your identifier directly into the blank.  Just click & type.

Alternatively, click the Downward options arrow.

When the options menu pops up, click to remove the check mark from Edit in place

Click New.

An input screen appears.  Click the blank under Key and type your next Subject identifier.  Protocols will fill in automatically.  The other blanks are optional.  When you’ve entered the information you want to preserve, click Done.

You can also click Pick from a list of identifiers you’ve used in your previous protocols.  Click the Downward options arrow.

On the Opinions menu, click Choose Subject(s) from list.

On the pick list, click the identifier you wish to consider.  The preview screen will display the details you entered for one or more previous protocols.  If this is the identifier you want, click Pick.

Using the pick list, you can enter several Subject identifiers at a time.  Click the entries while holding down the Shift or CTRL key.  Click Pick.

As you pick Tissue(s) and Subject(s), CytoGenie will fill in the Samples grid.

At any point in entering your Subjects and Samples, you can add descriptors, or keywords, to them.  You are free to move back and forth from one grid to another to suit your own way of laying out studies and protocols.
